2013 Year In Review

From the President’s Desk

Dear Students, Colleagues, and Friends,

As we turn the page on the calendar to 2014 I’m always reminded that the New Year provides each of us with an opportunity to reflect back on the past year.  I believe it’s important for each of us to acknowledge the accomplishments we’ve achieved along with the lessons we’ve learned as we set forth resolutions for the coming year.  As I reflect back on the year of 2013, there are many great things that happened in and around Dorsey Schools that our students, staff, and communities should be very proud of.  I’ve asked members of our team to highlight some of the accomplishments from 2013 below in a ‘Year In Review’.

As we look ahead to 2014, a year full of hope and promise, every one of us has the chance to seize opportunities in our life, and as always, Dorsey Schools will be there as a partner helping our students, our staff, and our communities in making the most of those opportunities to make the State of Michigan a great place to work and live.  I wish each of you a year full of happiness and health as we all embark upon our journey throughout 2014.

Warmest regards,

Patricia Fischer

Dorsey Schools 2013 Year In Review

President Eisenhower once said, “Accomplishments will prove to be a journey, not a destination.” Here at Dorsey Schools, considering all that we’ve accomplished in 2013, it has proven to be a journey worth looking back on. Throughout the past year, our students, faculty and even campus locations have experienced many achievements and reached new milestones that we are very proud of. From scholarships and “Distinguished Instructor” awards to the grand opening of our Dearborn Campus, it goes without saying that 2013 was a big year!

We pride ourselves on having great instructors in the classroom, who are dedicated and committed to our students’ success. In 2013, eight instructors received the award of “Distinguished Instructor.” In addition, a trio of chefs from Dorsey Schools Culinary Academy demonstrated their culinary knowledge and talent by passing the American Culinary Federation’s rigorous practical exam on Saturday, September 28, 2013.

Celebrating the success of our students is something that is very important to us. In 2013, the Michigan Association of Career Colleges and Schools awarded scholarships to two hard-working Dorsey students to help them reach their educational goals.

Both our Culinary Arts and Medical Assistant programs received positive accreditation program evaluations. Our Medical Assistant program has been programmatically accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), at the Roseville, Madison Heights, Farmington Hills, Waterford-Pontiac, Wayne, Southgate and Saginaw Campuses. The Roseville and Waterford-Pontiac Culinary Arts programs of Dorsey Schools are accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the American Culinary Federation Educational Foundation.

This year, Dorsey Schools announced new career training programs, including the Clinical Nurse Aide Training program and the Electrical Technician program, in addition to opening a tenth campus – Dearborn. The launch of these new career programs resulted from Dorsey’s recognition that these careers are experiencing significant growth and demand in the State of Michigan. Our newest Dearborn, Michigan campus offers training programs that are designed to prepare students for careers as Medical Assistants, Medical Administrating and Billing Specialists, Patient Care Technicians, Dental Assistants, or Electrical Technicians.

In an ongoing effort to serve the community, students from Dorsey Schools have used their specific talents to prepare hot meals to those in need on the longest night of the year or to help raise funds for deserving organizations, such as  Clarkston SCAMP, Rising Stars Academy and the Detroit Opera House.  In addition, the students and staff of Dorsey schools exhibited their generosity in donating canned food items and toys for children during the holiday season, and by contributing to organizations such as HAVEN and Turning Point.

Our students and staff continue to make us proud each and every day and we look forward to future success in the New Year!
