TRAINING IN THIS PROGRAM INCLUDES:

  • Learning pharmacy operations including strong communication and customer service skills that are critical to the success of the pharmacy technician.
  • Learning the language of medicine and building a proficient medical laboratory including the structure of the body, common diseases, treatment, laboratory tests and abbreviations.

Nurse Assistant / Home Health Aide

Employed in a variety of medical settings including hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers and assisted living facilities, Nurse Assistants and Home Health Aides are valuable members of patient care teams and are highly employable. As our population continues to age, the demand for Nurse Assistants and Home Health Aides is expected to continue to grow.

WHAT IS A NURSE ASSISTANT?

A Nurse Assistant provides basic bedside care and comfort under the direct supervision of a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN). Nurse Assistants most often work in a clinical setting performing tasks such as bathing, oral care, dressing, bathroom assistance and feeding.

WHAT IS A HOME HEALTH AIDE?

A Home Heanh Aide also works under the direct supervision of an RN or LPN, providing care to patients. Home Health Aides typically work in patient homes, completing many of the same tasks as Nurse Assistants, as well as assisting patients with activities of daily living such as meal preparation, light housekeeping and cooking.

THE NURSE ASSISTANT I HOME HEALTH AIDE PROGRAM

This six-week, three-certification program is designed for individuals seeking quick entry to the allied health field. Graduates are well prepared to sit for the State of Michigan Nurse Aide Certification examination. Students will, during the course of the program, sit for the National Association for Home Care & Hospice ("NAHC") Home Care Aide certification examination and obtain CPR certification. Program includes classroom lecture, laboratory practice and clinical experience components.
