Five of the Best Ways to Manage Stress and Anxiety during Times of Uncertainty

best ways to manage stress

In times of uncertainty, it is normal to feel a little stress and anxiety. With recent world events, there is a fair amount of uncertainty here at home as well as around the globe. We realize that everyone handles stress and anxiety differently. Our team sat down recently to compile a list of five of the best ways to manage stress and anxiety during times of uncertainty, from our perspective. Check out these helpful tips and see if they may work for you. At the end of the day, we are all in this together!

Be Good to Yourselfself care

One way to manage stress and anxiety during uncertain times is to be good to yourself. This is also commonly referred to as “self-care.” Self-care includes things such as eating right, exercising and getting enough sleep. These are all things needed for us to maintain good physical and mental health. There are also other ways to be kind to yourself. Reward yourself in times of uncertainty to ease anxiety. Maybe that is by treating yourself to a favorite snack or meal. Perhaps you will take part in an activity you enjoy. It may just be taking some extra time for you to rest and relax. Above all else, do not forget to be patient and forgiving with yourself. Everyone handles stress differently and on his or her own timeline, so do not be too hard on yourself!

Relive Happy Memories and Successesgraduation

Some find it comforting to deal with their stress and anxiety by reliving happy memories and past successes. Think about good memories you may have created with family and friends. Maybe there is a trip or vacation you took that brings back many happy memories. Scroll through pictures on your phone of things you may have done with your friends that brought you happiness. Do not forget about your successes and accomplishments. Pat yourself on the back for all of the great things you have done. Remember how great it felt when you achieved a goal or overcame an obstacle that you worked hard to achieve? You were successful then, and you can be successful now. You got this! There are many things in our lives that have brought us joy. Try reliving some of them to help you through your tough times.

Connect with Othersconnect with others

Another way to combat feelings of stress and anxiety in uncertain times by connecting with others. When we face tough times, it is important to lean in to others for support. This is especially helpful with people we trust and whom we know may provide us with the love and support we are seeking. Sometimes it can also be as simple as picking up the phone to call a friend or family member just to talk. Connecting with others can help you realize that you are not alone with your stress and anxiety. There are other people around you. There are people who care about you and want what is best for you. Moreover, who knows, maybe by reaching out and connecting with someone over the phone, you may help him or her feel a bit better as well?

Control What You Can Controlcontrol what you can control

There is a saying…life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you respond to it. We cannot always control the things that are happening around us, but we are within control of how we react to them. Sometimes it is easier said than done, but take a moment to pause, and relax. Do the best you can. Do what you think is right. Exercise care, caution, and responsibility in the actions you take. Above all else, be confident in YOU and the actions you take. After all, you have made it this far in life, you have obviously done some things right! We may not always be able to control things happening around us, especially in uncertain times, but we can certainly control how we respond to them. This may also be a good time to channel your energy in a more productive direction. Work on a project or a hobby that brings you joy. Instead of sitting still, or worse, focusing on your stress and anxiety, occupy your mind with a productive project or hobby. It could be just the distraction you were looking for!

Ask for Help When Neededask for help

There is nothing wrong with asking for help. Ever. If you get to a point where you think you may need some extra help in managing your stress and anxiety, ask. Many schools have resources in place for their students who may need someone to talk to during difficult times. Some companies also have similar services available for their employees. Also, it may not be a bad idea to seek the advice of your healthcare provider. There are people out there available to listen when you need to talk.

There you have it! This was our list of Five of the Best Ways to Manage Stress and Anxiety during Times of Uncertainty. Maybe there are things that work well for you that did not make our list. That is not necessarily a bad thing. This list is not meant to be all-inclusive. If there are other tips that work well for you, that is great. Keeping your health and well-being at the forefront is so important when managing stress and anxiety.
