Massage Therapy Training Programs On Monday January 25th, Massage Therapy students from the Dorsey Schools Madison Heights, MI campus held a Senior Spa Day event for the Madison Heights, MI Senior Center.  Over 29 people attended and took advantage of various massage services such as Swedish Massage, Hot Stone Massage, and Chair Massage.  Each of these techniques are taught as part of the Massage Therapy curriculum at Dorsey Schools.  The event was led by Mr. Fender and Ms. Finn, Massage Therapy instructors at Dorsey Schools, and allowed students an opportunity to gain experience, practice the skills they have been learning, and build stronger relationships within their local community.  Check out some of the photos here along with more on our Facebook page!

The Massage Therapy Training Program at Dorsey Schools

The Massage Therapy program at Dorsey Schools provides students with a foundation in anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology which form the basis for training in specific massage techniques. The Massage Therapy program provides students with the opportunity to prepare for entry level positions in the industry, once licensed. Successful completion of this program meets the approved curriculum requirement needed to apply for licensure in Michigan.*

Training in the Dorsey Schools Massage Therapy program includes:

The opportunity for students to learn hands-on techniques, including Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue, Neuromuscular Therapy, and Sports Massage.

Once licensed, Dorsey Schools graduates may pursue a variety of jobs, including private practice, athletic team massage therapist, massage therapist in a hospital, on-site massage therapist, massage therapist in a spa or salon, assistant to physical therapists or chiropractors, or serving as a massage therapist on cruise ships.

The curriculum in the Dorsey Schools Massage Therapy training program is also geared to prepare students to challenge the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx).

Students in Massage Therapy Training ProgramStudents enrolled in the Dorsey Schools Massage Therapy program will have the opportunity to practice all massage modalities learned throughout their training program on members of the public in a simulated work environment. During Supervised Clinic Practice and as part of their training, Dorsey Schools Massage Therapy students will provide massage services to customers who will be charged for the services rendered by students.

As licensure is required for employment as a Massage Therapist by the State of Michigan, Dorsey Schools will pay the cost one time for students in this program to challenge a certification/licensure exam as selected by Dorsey Schools, contingent upon the student meeting Dorsey Schools’ exam preparation requirements, which vary by program.

*As of November 29, 2014, massage therapists will be required to obtain a license to work in the State of Michigan. All applicants for a Massage Therapist license must have completed a supervised curriculum in massage therapy that has been approved by the Michigan Board of Massage Therapy. Dorsey Schools Massage Therapy program is an approved supervised curriculum by Michigan Board of Massage Therapy. Dorsey Schools will keep affected students apprised of newly implemented requirements for licensure as a Massage Therapist in the State of Michigan.
