Dorsey College to Hold Free Career Exploration Events for Those Interested in Various Career Fields
In October 2024, The Detroit Free Press, highlighted national data that showed a 5% dip in freshman enrollment at traditional four-year colleges, with many individuals pursuing other paths. In addition, the article goes on to discuss several in-demand careers here in Michigan that do not require a four-year college degree. As the demand for skilled workers in Michigan continues to rise, institutions will be challenged to help bridge the gap between students seeking the education that’s right for them with the projected demand for various career paths in our state over the coming years.
Dorsey College, a trusted name in career training and education here in Michigan for over 90 years, will be hosting a series of events at their campuses in Southeast Michigan to provide information to those who are thinking about pursuing a career training program. The events scheduled are as follows:
• Dorsey College Madison Heights: Thursday July 24th from 11AM to 3PM
• Dorsey College Woodhaven: Friday August 1st from 10AM to 2PM
• Dorsey College Dearborn: Thursday August 21st from 4PM to 6PM
When asked about the Career Exploration Events, John Barnes, President, and CEO for Dorsey College shared, “Dorsey has always been focused on helping meet the needs for skilled workers in our local communities. The Career Exploration Event provides an opportunity for individuals to learn about a variety of in-demand careers, and how they can pursue a new path. Higher Education is not a ‘one size fits all,’ and at Dorsey College, we pride ourselves in offering training programs that can help our students begin a career that they are excited about pursuing and do so in a relatively short amount of time.”
The Dorsey School was founded by Ruth Dorsey in 1934 and was located in downtown Detroit. Today, Dorsey College, remains committed to providing quality career training that prepares individuals for promising career opportunities in fields such as healthcare, nursing, culinary, beauty, skilled trades, and emergency medical services at various campus locations in Michigan. In 2023, Dorsey College joined the Lindenwood Education System family, which represents an innovative and forward-thinking approach to not only provide additional opportunities for higher education, but lifelong learning as well. Dorsey College is accredited by the Commission of the Council on Occupational Education. This applies to the Madison Heights campus (which serves as the main campus) and the Dearborn, Roseville, Saginaw, Woodhaven, and Wayne campuses (which are branch campus locations of Madison Heights).
