Dorsey College Hopeful That New Designation Will Create Opportunities for Students and Graduates
On July 16, 2026, Dorsey College received designation as a non-profit institution from the United States Department of Education. This comes just over three years after Dorsey College became part of the Lindenwood Education System, which is based in St. Louis Missouri. The Lindenwood Education System is the parent entity to a system of separate and distinct independent institutions of higher education, which represents an innovative and forward-thinking approach to provide both additional opportunities for higher education, and lifelong learning as well.
When asked about the transition, Lance Craven, President and CEO for Dorsey College shared, “this change closely aligns with our mission as well as our vision for the future. Becoming a non-profit college will provide opportunities for us to further invest in our training programs and campuses. We are also hopeful that this change will open doors and create new opportunities for our students, graduates, and the employers within local Michigan communities we serve.”
The Dorsey School was founded by Ruth Dorsey in 1934 and was located in downtown Detroit. Today, Dorsey College remains committed to providing quality career training that prepares individuals for promising career opportunities in fields such as healthcare, nursing, beauty, skilled trades, and emergency medical services at various campus locations in Michigan. In 2023, Dorsey College joined the Lindenwood Education System. Dorsey College is accredited by the Commission of the Council on Occupational Education. This applies to the Madison Heights campus (which serves as the main campus) and the Dearborn, Roseville, Saginaw, Woodhaven, and Wayne campuses (which are affiliate campus locations of Madison Heights).
