The Esthetician diploma program offered at Dorsey College is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge needed to pursue a career as a skin care professional. This includes the scientific knowledge, artistic principles, and hands-on practice needed to pursue a career as an Esthetician. Hands-on training in the Esthetician program includes skills such as facials, body treatments, wraps, rejuvenation therapies, non-abrasive peels, and hair removal. Artistic principles presented in the Esthetician program include eyelash enhancement, cosmetic color therapy, and corrective makeup. Scientific knowledge in the Esthetician program includes training in skin pathology, microbiology, and knowledge of the muscles, bones, and nerves of the face, neck, and shoulders. This knowledge is critical to establish a foundation in preparation for the State of Michigan licensure examination.

Esthetician training program
During the Esthetician training program at Dorsey College, students will have the opportunity to obtain the knowledge and skills that are needed to prepare them to pursue their new career in this exciting profession. The Esthetician program totals 440 clock hours and consists of four courses:
- EST 101 Introduction to Esthetics (110 hours)
- EST 102 Skin Sciences (110 hours)
- EST 103 Makeup and Advanced Treatments (110 hours)
- EST 104 Esthetician Career and Spa Management (110 hours)
Training in this program includes:
- Basic instruction in the scientific knowledge, artistic principles, and hands-on training in various skills and treatments that an Esthetician performs.
- An Esthetician Student Kit, which contains various items used in the industry, as well as textbooks, provided by Dorsey School of Beauty.
- The opportunity for students to receive hands-on training (while supervised) in our on-campus beauty clinic where they will be able to provide services to the public who may be charged for the services rendered by students.
- As licensure is required for employment by the State of Michigan, Dorsey College will pay the cost one time for graduates of this program to challenge the state licensure exam, contingent upon the graduate meeting Dorsey College’s exam preparation requirements. Dorsey College has determined that its Esthetician program curriculum is sufficient to fulfill educational requirements for licensure in the State of Michigan only. No educational determinations have been made for any other state, district or US territory in regards to licensure requirements.

The tuition for the Esthetician program includes the necessary textbooks along with an Esthetician Student Kit. The student kit includes various items used in the industry. Dorsey College will furnish all necessary materials and supplies to senior students who perform work on patrons. All equipment, materials, and supplies not included in the student kit are the property of Dorsey College.
