The emphasis of this program is on activating the EMS system and providing immediate care for life-threatening injuries, controlling the scene, preparing for the arrival of the ambulance, and patient privacy (HIPAA).

Emergency Medical Responder Program
The Emergency Medical Responder training program at Dorsey Emergency Medical Academy in Michigan utilizes a patient assessment-based approach to individual and team First Responder-level pre-hospital care. This program fulfills the initial training for the Emergency Medical Responder following the NHTSA National Education Standards and instructor guidelines. Successful completion of this program will qualify students to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians examination for Emergency Medical Responder. This program is MDHHS approved.
