HVAC Systems Technician Program

The HVAC Systems Technician diploma program at Dorsey Schools prepares the student for a career in the professional world of working with heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration machinery. This program features fundamental coverage of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical, refrigeration, and residential and commercial systems. Additional course topics include blueprinting, system design, and environmentally-friendly practices of weatherization and sustainability. Along with classroom education, students will also participate in an externship during the last module of the training, which incorporates knowledge acquired in the program into practical application as they gain industry experience.

  • A hands-on approach to instruction and learning in the classroom coupled with an externship component allowing students to apply knowledge from the classroom in a practical setting while gaining industry experience.
  • Fundamental education in HVAC, electricity, refrigeration, and residential and commercial systems.
  • During the course of the program, students will challenge the EPA Section 608 Type 2 Certification exam, which is generally required to work in the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning industry. Dorsey Schools will pay the cost one time for students in this program to challenge a certification/licensure exam as selected by Dorsey Schools, contingent upon the student meeting Dorsey Schools exam preparation requirements, which vary by program.

HVAC technicians may enjoy stable employment in one of the country’s most in-demand trades. Typical duties associated with these positions include installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. Positions in this field may be found in residential, commercial, construction, and industrial settings. The tasks and duties that HVAC technicians perform include services such as maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, repair and/or replacement of HVAC equipment.
