Saginaw Campus Students Collects Pennies for Philanthropy

This July, students and faculty from the Saginaw Campus of Dorsey Schools collected pennies as well as other coins and bills to help Saginaw County residents in need. The collection was a part of a penny drive fundraiser to help support Community Prescription Support Program (CPxSP), a local charity that assists community members who are financially unable to pay for their prescription medications. If you’re wondering what a penny drive fundraiser is, it is a friendly competition-based enterprise where members from each team donate as many pennies as possible to score points – but also donate any other coins which are considered to be negative points. The Saginaw Campus helped to raise $210 for the organization, which will help in covering the costs of dispensing 70 prescriptions. These donations help to support clients who have explained that without CPxSP, they would be unable to access their lifesaving medicines.

Making donations, however, is not the only way that Saginaw students and faculty show their commitment to bettering the health of others. The Saginaw Campus features three training programs in the areas of Medical Assisting, Medical Administration and Billing, and Pharmacy Technician training. Students also participate in an externship at local clinics, physicians’ offices, or hospitals where they not only gain real work experience but also are helping others as they learn.

Whether students and faculty are participating in philanthropies for local charities, helping patients at their externships, or learning in the classroom, Dorsey Schools’ Saginaw Campus is committed to healthcare!
