Dorsey students open local Michigan restaurant: scrappy joes

Grand Opening of Scrappy Joe’s

We, at Dorsey Schools, would like to make an exciting announcement: three of our Dorsey Culinary Academy graduates have recently opened a new restaurant! Scrappy Joe’s, located in Warren, MI near 9 Mile and Mound Rd is now open for business! They just recently held their grand opening on Saturday June 18, 2016.

About the Founders

Gregory Robinson, Maurice Kelly and Yolanda Mercer, all graduates from our Dorsey Culinary Academy, located in Roseville, MI, have a very strong passion for food and the culinary arts. They founded Scrappy Joe’s as a way to get their names into the industry. They not only have a restaurant, but they also have an up and coming catering business called Above the Rest Catering Company.

About the Food

Scrappy Joe’s has several specialty items, most of which are creative plays on the traditional Sloppy Joe sandwich. Some of their other menu items include wings with a few original sauces to choose from, corned beef, eggrolls, nachos, and more. In order to give you all the Dorsey Dish and support a local new business, we recently stopped in to give it a taste. Our official ‘taster’ ordered their namesake: the Scrappy Joe, at Maurice’s suggestion, and she was pretty glad she did. The sandwich was a classic Sloppy Joe on a Hawaiian roll topped with a thick hot sausage. Their portions were large, their prices reasonable, and their seasoning was on point.

We will definitely be going back and if you’re in the area, you should stop by and check it out too.
